About Us
For 30 years we have been dedicated to the Montessori philosophy and teaching methods. We pride ourselves on our diversity and helping your child develop to his or her fullest potential. A majority of our graduates test and attend the local private schools including Trinity Valley School, Fort Worth Country Day, Southwest Christian, All Saints and others.
The Fort Worth Montessori School is a unique private preschool where classrooms include Language, Science, Zoology, Botany, Geography, Mathematics, Sensorial, and Practical Life materials. FWMS offers a private library containing over 3,000 titles for our students and families. The books are for enjoyment along with support for the curriculum. Children visit the school library once a week or when their parents pick up and want to enjoy time together.
Many families choose our facility due to the safety measures we take to ensure no one comes into the building that shouldn’t. Only the personnel have key cards to get into to the school doors. We do not have a key pad or access codes for families. A staff member will meet someone at the door they do not recognize or use our door access monitor to communicate. If we recognize the individual, we will then allow them in. If someone isn’t recognized a staff member will get the director or someone in the administration to ensure the person can be in the building.
Education is a top priority at the school where ALL teachers embrace the founding principles and curriculum of Dr. Maria Montessori. Parents say we run a tight ship meaning we set loving limits with our students but also our families to ensure we are consistent with our curriculum and philosophy. We help children prepare to enter the top private schools in Fort Worth. The local schools love FWMS children.
Communication is a priority to encourage a partnership with the parents and school. Emails, private Facebook group, notes, phone calls, and speaking with parents directly are the methods we utilize to effectively communicate with our families. Children take home a folder at the end of the week to show the families the work they chose and were presented that week. Items mastered are held for the 2 parent conferences during the year. Parents can be involved in the child’s learning. FWMS offers parenting classes to encourage consistency with our families and classrooms.
Children are shown how to care for themselves and their environment with common courtesies and manners including setting the table and serving each other. Children enjoy cleaning up after themselves and others. They want to do whatever the adult is accomplishing. The children prepare and bake bread daily while preparing and serving their personal snacks for the day. FWMS offers a wonderful social environment while academics are always present and implemented. The children naturally take on a leadership role as they are the example to those younger.
The purpose of Fort Worth Montessori School is to work with parents to help children develop foundations for a lifetime of creative learning and to develop the basic ideas, attitudes and skills essential for success in school and life. Children acquire a thirst for learning, favorable attitudes toward school, positive habits of concentration, initiative, order, persistence, originality, functional creativity, and above all-clear perceptions. Children participate in purposeful, real and meaningful activities that invite discussion and discovery as well as logical conclusions.
Uniquely designed materials, apparatus, and activities are prepared and provided for each age group to meet children’s developmental needs. Children’s strengths are recognized and noted and the adults find ways to help them develop more fully in these areas. Children’s weak areas are noted, and the adults find ways to help them develop more fully in these areas. Children are encouraged to grow at a rate and in a way that best helps their development rather than in competition with other children.
FWMS is here to serve parents and the needs of the children. We can best do this by serving as a family-type school. We intend for this to be a home away from home, as well as a high quality educational center. In mixed-age groups, like a family or a neighborhood, children have a chance to progress from youngest to middle to oldest child. In a non-competitive social environment, children learn from older models and progress in developing of leadership roles. Remaining in the same class for several years fosters security, confidence, meaningful (rather than casual) relationships, and an intimate understanding between teachers, parents, and children of individual capabilities and needs.
